A new service recently launched which is aimed at helping independent musicians license their music online. You License gives musicians an opportunity to log in to the YL site, upload their music, and deal directly with would be advertisers and media companies. In essence, it gives musicians a chance to cut out the “middle man” that is usually filled by labels or management.
You License is not the first company to jump into this field and probably will not be the last. After browsing through the site I have to say that I love how easy and clean the design and access is. It appears that YL has gotten it right when it comes to accessibility for users. Let’s hope that this site really takes off and more independent musicians succeed as a result.

Lala has just suspended the majority of its on-demand streaming services. The company not long ago launches this streaming service for free even though the costs of broadcasting is high and about to rise even higher. 30 second clips of this streaming service is still available, but no more full length tracks.
Samsung Electronics on Thursday said it has partnered with MusicNet in launching in Europe a music service designed for its digital media players, the latest chapter in the company’s uphill battle against the market-leading Apple (iPod).
Jon Johansen a Norwegian hacker claims that he has found a way to activate a brand new unactivated iPhone without signing up to the AT&T service. Johansen who is current 23 has been hacking consumer electronic gadgets since he was a teenager and on his blog called “So Sue Me” he posted these latest comments. On his blog he has place links to software necessary to complete the process. To me it always seems to be Norwegian hackers that do this kind of stuff before anyone else! Wasnt the person who hacked the ipod software first a Norwegian?

Avril Lavigne’s song “Girlfriend” is claimed bearing too similar lyrics to a 1979 song and the songwriters are now suing for it. This is a turn up for the books. Avril is currently signed to Sony BMG. I wonder who will really win this little battle, the multinational of Sony BMG or the little songwriters. We will just have to wait and see.

Napster is warning investors that the incompatibility of the tracks it sells with the new iPhone could hurt sales. (InfoWeek) It seems a weak excuse given that Napster’s real problem is incompatibility with 10 million iPods. Since Napster’s woes would be cure as more labels drop DRM; why isn’t the download service selling the million plus compatible mp3’s that are available from EMI and all of the indies?
Public Enemy recently tapped Tunecore to distribute its latest album, according to a New York Times report. The lengthily-titled release, How Do You Sell Soul to a Soulless People Who Sold Their Soul, will be distributed by Tunecore across a number of online music outlets.
